Compassion is something all of us strive to embody and it seems to be a visitor instead of a permanent resident in the house of You.
A trigger.
A headline.
An inconvenience.
An unexpected ouch.
Boop! Where did that nourishing layer of love go the moment the sharp edge of life punctured its lovely rim - from flower to serrated metal.
Compassion holds two codes within - the merging sea of compass and passion.
Your compass gives you the direction you’re facing, a navigational tool in the GPS of your body - the inner knowing we all have yet so many listen without obedience each day.
Your passion is the roaring fire in your heart that knows the truth that you’ll die one day. This is the hearth of love, belief and the dreams etched into the marrow of your soul river. Wide, raw, powerful and true.
When your compass and your passion are aligned in fusion, they collide into compassion which shows us the direction to take in life that directly reflects our deepest passions for life.
Compassion is known as the ability to have deep understanding, love and care for others, particularly when they’re going through a rough spot. It’s not empathy. Empathy is the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, compassion is the lived love to care rather than understand.
What is never discussed is how these inner workings present themselves in our daily inner landscape, the quiet moments no one sees of deep intimacy where it’s you and the Creator.
These are the moments we may cut corners because “no one is watching”, then a week later hesitate in self doubt totally botching a business deal not because we suck at business - because we broke our very own bond with self in that “no one is watching” moment we had alone.
Most people live a consistent all day soul fracture in this way.
We cannot be most people as clear vessels for the light.
This fracture is the birth place of Holy Habits I coined, teach and equip.
What I’ve come to know and understand lately in the realm of compassion is that the deepest compassion for both yourself and others is only possible through higher standards.
We cannot go deep without going high - it’s an equal exhale expansion into the edges vertically on the grid.
To have compassion for myself has recently meant that I’ve been met with visceral night terrors that annihalate me and put my body into fight or flight, compassion means seeing this and loving myself without berating me for having this response.
As a masterful healer and general high performer, I noticed I had been accidentally bypassing a very real and extreme process in my body because I’m so good. Too good in fact that I dropped my self compassion on the sidewalk behind me as I barreled forward on my mission serving others.
None of this matters if you’re not giving it to yourself FIRST. Perhaps you only give it to you one day and that’s enough. More than enough.
Deeper compassion for myself has only occurred by raising my standards for the behavior I allow from myself. I simply don’t allow myself to bypass, to berate, to spin in lies of the mind and certainly don’t expose myself to those who throw cold water on the dreams I’m here to steward.
When I have higher standards for the energy, people, ideas and everything I interface with intimately, I can have deeper compassion for others. Compassion from a vantage point is accessible when up close is self harm.
Lots to say on this topic and lots to navigate on this winding quest of I AM in the next level of the video game called life.
Turns out deeper compassion and higher standards are not two peas in a pod.
Turns out deeper compassion and higher standards are the very same thing by different names.
What does this mean for how you live your highest potential today?
Particularly in that sticky moment you know is shifting your trajectory that conveniently “no one sees”?
Deeper? Higher? How about both at once in tandem?
