Why I Choose Breathwork Over Psychedelics
I've been doing deep holotropic Breathwork journeys almost daily for the past five years as well as facilitating these extreme subconscious breakthrough spaces for my clients. I've been a high performance coach for 15+ years and a healer for the past six. What constantly comes up is the conversation around psychedelics - here's why I recommend Breathwork over psychedelics every single time.
I have done both multiple times and seen a lot in the spiritual space. Some of which I love and respect, a lot of which I don't. I sat with the Grandmother, Momma Ayahuasca twice in 2025 after a decade of invitations I was a hard no for. I had a life changing, deeply healing and profound experiences with Aya and mushrooms - I still choose Breathwork every single time.
Here's the key difference that makes Breathwork not only just as powerful, BETTER in my professional and personal opinion.
1) It's legal and on your person - zero risk in that regard
2) You're in full command of your experience - you cannot "un-take" psychedelics, once ingested it's set in motion. There are extreme risks for those with certain brain chemistry, lived experience, etc. With Breathwork, you have the gas pedal and the brake in every moment. You are creating your experience.
3) Breathwork is sustainable - you can do it as much as you want and there is no limit to the depth of magic, mystical experience, healing and breakthroughs you can have. Doing drugs every day is NOT the vibe and creates addiction.
4) Breathwork creates self trust in a way that is impossible with psychedelics. Psychedelics carry a level of outsourcing your power because you're ingesting something external to "fix" or "create" what you desire. In Breathwork, you consciously choose to take each and every breath. You keep breathing even when challenges come up - it creates spiritual fortitude, endurance and un-fuck-with-able self trust/respect truly being your own healer.
5) Energetic Hygiene - what most people don't realize is the utter lack of integrity that happens in the plant medicine world and land of psychedelics. A ton of people disconnected from the ancient codes are tossing these compounds around, opening pandora's box without knowing how to hold a clean and potent energetic space. You can also become entangled with other people's "stuff" in these ceremonies, which does not happen so much in Breathwork.
I hold a squeaky clean space. You have enough to traverse without opening the cauldron of chaos of others while your nervous system is wide open and malleable. This never happens in my space, especially a 1:1 space. This is a huge reason why I said no to every invitation to sit with plant medicine for 10 years before saying yes - every invitation had "dirty" energy and deep disrespect to the medicine.
These are my brief thoughts - I can go on and on and on about this topic! I don't dislike psychedelics - I deeply value them, respect them and have experienced the immense power of them. I see the long trajectory benefits of Breathwork that far outweigh what people are sharing is possible through psychedelics.
If you're feeling called to this level of deep subconscious reprogramming, opening pandora's box of your own psyche and the depth of breakthrough - I highly recommend Breathwork OVER psychedelics. This is NOT yoga breathing, box breathing or Wim Hoff - everyone says Breathwork, 99% of people are not talking about what I facilitate in my spaces.
I always recommend doing a lot of Breathwork before you do psychedelics at any point. If you've never gone this deep within yourself bending your own brain and cellular structure, the last thing you want to do is sit in a circle of strangers with a compound that's likely not being held in a space of integrity.
My final thought - I have seen many people use psychedelics in a deeply honorable, spiritual, scientific and ancient way that aligns with New Earth. It's out there, I've seen it and experienced it. I will say it's far less common and even things that "appear correct" are not from an energetic Shamanic standpoint.
